Decluttering mentality is following me to work!

Last week I walked into the copy “room” – it’s really more of a closet – only to find a bunch of stuff all over the place and I was unable to make it to the copy machine.  I moved a few items, made my copies, and then went over to the office to find the principal or assistant principal to vent to.

AP came over to look and said “oh my”.  That was it!  Not a “I’ll get someone to clean” or anything similar.

On Wednesday I met with Principal and AP (along with the 3 other union representatives for our school – yep, I’m a union rep!) and mentioned the copy room issue again.  Safety was my primary concern.  Having to step over the stuff can’t possibly be safe!  AP said she would have it taken care of.

Today, Monday, I walked in again only to find someone left a bag of bottles for recycling right in front of the copy machine!

I spent about 1/2 hour straightening things up – some boxes were moved to the shelves, some needed to be restacked, empty crushed boxes removed from the room, bag of bottles moved out, chairs stacked.  The leaning tower of boxes was because some brilliant person stacked other boxes on top of empty boxes!  OH MY!

Now I can get to the copy machine!  Feeling accomplished!  I’ll let someone else conquer around the corner.

Now the big question – how long before someone adds more stuff??

  1. Those types of areas are tough. Most people don’t feel responsible for it so they just leave it but I’m glad you stepped up and did something!

  2. If anything, those toppling boxes could have been a health and safety risk, and the ones on the floor a trip hazard. Twist your back trying to get to the copy machine and you might have to spend a week off work…. 😉 Much neater now though!
