Decluttering the Stuff for a Decluttered Life in Retirement

About Us

Updated 12/2025

We, John and Barb, have been on a mission to Declutter the Stuff.  Decluttering the Stuff allows us to move towards a Decluttered Life in Retirement!  This blog will allow us to share the experience with you – of Decluttering the Stuff and some of our Decluttered Life.  This has been a lifestyle changing journey.

We are both now retired!! We were both science teachers – John teaching physical sciences and Barb teaching life sciences. We were married June 1984 (41+ years ago!)  We have 2 adult daughters, 1 son-in-law, and 2 amazing granddaughters (7 and 5).  We have lived in our current home since December 1989 (36 years already!)  Time sure flies!  It feels like yesterday we were starting a family and moving into this house!

We both look at the world from a scientific perspective which sometimes slows us down by requiring evidence and analysis!  We recycled and composted long before it was locally mandated, earning us “hippy” comments.  We are both concerned about the world our children (and grandchildren) will inherit.  Decluttering the stuff is one small step in our journey toward a decluttered life.

We have merged our travel blog with this one – a digital decluttering aspect of our lives.   We are attempting to document our travels through the United States.  We feel truly blessed that we were able to share our love of adventure and the natural world with our children during the summers while they lived at home, starting first with a tent, upgrading to a pop-up tent-trailer, promoting to a class C motorhome, and now graduating to a class A motorhome.  All the travel information is definitely a work in progress.
