Decluttering the Stuff for a Decluttered Life in Retirement

How many do I need?

Plastic and paper bags – those disposable bags that we had very few of prior to quarantine. Once California went into lock down a year ago, if you shopped, you could not use your own bags. Most stores are still not allowing you to use your own bags but with a decrease in COVID numbers, I’m hoping we can use our own bags again soon.

They pantry had reached the level of madness. I decluttered 60 of the cheapest, tears after you look at them plastic bags and 20 paper bags. I put another 250 plastic bags into bags of 25 or 50 (you know, those you can actually reuse). Why am I keeping them? Who knows! I even decluttered all the bags from the trunk of the car!

While I was dealing with the bags, kiddo #2 decluttered the rest of the pantry, consolidating open containers from when she moved in and just straightening up the shelves. Another 20 items gone.

100 items removed from the pantry!!

Woop, woop! Great job, Barb and kiddo #2!! I’ve been slacking this month.
I was just throwing away the flimsy plastic ones, for about a month, but this Publix has the recycle bins RIGHT by the entrance. No excuses! Drats!! lol
Decluttering is never done!! When I started, I imagined I would be able to do it, in about a year, and be done forever. HAHA!! How naive was I??

hahaha one year! We were so naive! I have the bag of bags sitting by the door for the trip to the store – I haven’t been to a grocery store in over a year. Those bags might sit there for a while!

Wow! A year? I guess you have delivery? Or does John go? Here Walmart delivers. Also Instacart from Publix.

We do Walmart pickup for perishables and online for other stuff. It was a weird experience! We’ve used Instacart a few times.

I didn’t know about Walmart delivery, until I moved in with DD1. It’s cool! I can go outside in my pjs to get the food, off the doorstep!

I know! It’s great during a pandemic and I think we might use it more often when we can finally go out again.

We’re lazy, and can’t pick up much weight, so it’s fabulous for us!
