Decluttering the Stuff for a Decluttered Life in Retirement
We experimented and made ube cake. We purchased the ube extract and powder online and used betty crocker gluten free yellow cake mix as the base. It has a pretty purple color and the taste was ok – not great, not bad. We think making it gluten free with the yellow cake mix might have affected the flavor more than we expected.
Here’s what it looked coming out of the oven. The top didn’t change at all after baking. We topped it with white buttercream frosting. Not weight loss friendly!
It makes a yummy cake but we experimented to make it gluten free with a mix. I wouldn’t recommend yellow cake as the base.

Ube is a purple yam and people in the Philippines use it to make cake. It is really good but our attempt was so so. It’s a white chocolate vanilla ish flavor that’s hard to describe.
Ube ice cream is awesome!! We attempted to make some with the leftover powder but it didn’t freeze right. It tasted good but not as good as from the store.
