Decluttering the Stuff for a Decluttered Life in Retirement

The Big Island (Hawai’i) post 6, Volcano NP

It started raining soon after getting into the car at South Point and continued raining until after our arrival at Volcano House.

We spent 2 nights at the Volcano House (the banner image for this link was the room we stayed in!) in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. The rooms are very dated BUT you are on the rim of the volcano – worth it in our minds. We ate dinner at “The Rim” restaurant both nights and had the buffet breakfast both mornings (reservations HIGHLY recommended for dinner!) The food was great and they made accomodations for gluten-free!

Unfortunately, the volcano Kilauea was not erupting. We were hoping it would start erupting while we were there. The daily update upon arrival had it at a YELLOW advisory level. The next morning it was upgraded to an ORANGE watch level. The day after we left the volcano area, it was downgraded to a YELLOW advisory level. At least we had some excitement with this AND there was more venting in the caldera (see images below).

We visited the lava tube. It is a nice walk to the entrance. My knee did not like the number of stairs.

We also went to the local Volcano Winery – $20 per person for a tasting of 7 wines.
