We have camped here multiple times – most recently for a long weekend in February 2023. Yep, I’m a little behind in my posts. On this trip I announced to our traveling friends I was retiring in June.
Our group used 3 sites and another person drove up for one day.
All 8 pups loved their walks here.

This campground is part of the Rainbow Basin Natural Area managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). (NPS link) (BLM link) (Wikipedia link) Be forewarned – you will travel about 4.5 miles on a bumpy dirt road to reach the campground.
Nightly fee is $6.
There are about 20 sites, first come basis.
Each site has a picnic table, bbq grill, fire pit, and most have a shade over the table.
There are no hookups and limited water from a large “barrel”.
Vault toilets are found within the campground.
There is no cell reception.
Plenty of room between sites.
There is an equestrian group site nearby.
Things to see and do:
Hike the canyon and washes – Kiddo #2 fell down an embankment about 30 years ago and broke her arm. Be careful while hiking this area!
Drive a scenic loop preferably with 4 wheel drive
Fossil hunting
Gaze at beautiful geologic formations
Star gazing – my favorite thing!
